The Importance of Swine Farming Day

The Italian swine sector is a strategic segment in the national meat industry, ranking third overall. However, in recent years, it has faced several challenges, including rising production costs, a decline in pigs slaughtered for PDO/PGI production, and issues related to ASF (African Swine Fever).

In 2024, thanks to the expertise of its speakers, the 7th Swine Farming Day brought together over 500 participants both in person and online, analyzing critical situations and the consequences of ASF, which has impacted the sector for nearly three years. The event also examined export-related issues and the measures implemented by major integrated supply chain groups to protect their farms.

In 2025, the 8th Swine Farming Day will take place in Modena on October 15, 2025, and will be an eagerly awaited discussion on the future and prospects of Italian pig farming, starting once again with an update on ASF. The day will also feature two specialized training courses focused on farm health protection, with particular attention to the challenges that have emerged in recent years.

Pest Control and Training in Swine Farms

Swine Farming Day is now an essential event for those who want to stay up to date with technological, regulatory, and operational developments in the sector.

Thanks to the adoption of specific protocols for the swine sector, ZooKare offers solutions that ensure effective and long-lasting pest control, aiming to reduce health risks on farms and improve production yields. These include:

• Development of specific protocols for controlling commensal rodents, vectors of numerous diseases and a cause of structural damage, using innovative rodenticide formulations such as Brocum Fioccato. Developed in Colkim’s laboratories and widely appreciated in the swine sector, it consists of a blend of flaked seeds specifically designed for rodent palatability.

• Development of specific protocols for fly control, also disease vectors and a source of stress for animals. Among these, MusciTex stands out: a mix of beneficial insects (Nasonia spp. and Muscidifurax spp.) bred in Colkim’s biofactory, which interrupt the fly development cycle by parasitizing their pupae (a control system also authorized for organic production).
• Development of innovative solutions for bird control, such as Bird-Free, a triple-action deterrent system (visual, olfactory, and tactile) that ensures the permanent removal of birds from treated structures.
• Delivery of UNI EN ISO 21001:2019 certified courses on farm biosecurity. These courses, led by technicians and university professors, aim to enhance farmers’ expertise through continuous training.
