Rodent control is affected by new critical issues, so the success of operators’ interventions increasingly depends on the rodents’ ability to adapt. To address these new needs, we designed Square, the dispenser made from 100% recycled plastic that counteracts rodent neophobia.
In recent years, the introduction of second-generation anticoagulants has improved the effectiveness of rodent control, significantly reducing the problem of physiological resistance. Today, however, attention has shifted to neophobia, the natural distrust of rodents towards new foods or objects, a phenomenon even more evident in areas characterized by’ intensive use of rodenticides.
Consequently, the success of interventions depends not only on the product, but also on the ability to stimulate bait intake. To achieve concrete results, it is therefore necessary to design devices that minimize rodent neophobia, promoting faster access to bait.
The development of the Square dispenser stems from an integrated approach that combines scientific literature on rodent behavior, application experience from Colkim’s technical team, and field analysis using camera traps.
Square, is not a simple plastic dispenser, but represents a real innovation in the industry: a bait station with a design that manages to overcome rodent neophobia. In this way, we offer industry professionals an innovative product, made of 100% recycled plastic, safe and scientifically validated.

The absence of floor at the entrance allows the rodent to maintain contact with the external ground even in the first approaches inside the dispenser, increasing the confidence of the rodent.

Square is designed to ensure high robustness even under intensive use conditions. The hinges are designed to allow frequent openings, ensuring consistent and reliable performance.
Another well-known criticality is the variability in food preferences of mice and rats. Rodents may reject certain bait formulations without apparent reason
For this reason, the Square bait dispenser is designed to accommodate multiple formulations simultaneously, allowing gels and flickers to be inserted into the appropriate side trays, while paraffin blocks and pasta sachets can be attached to the metal bars, which can be positioned both horizontally and vertically, increasing the likelihood of identifying the most attractive solution more quickly.
The use of bait must often be supplemented with traps which, for safety reasons, must always be protected. Square allows capture devices to be housed in two distinct positions: one that partially obstructs light coming from the opposite exit and one that maintains wide visibility inside the tunnel. In this way, the operator is able to adjust the dispenser to the colony-specific behavioral response. These characteristics allow you to alternate or combine baits and traps, optimizing interventions especially in the initial stages.

A modern device must be effective and selective for target species while being safe for the ecosystem. Square was designed to meet both of these needs thanks to a versatile structure, featuring two separate compartments, one for cockroach monitoring and the other for rodents.
For cockroach monitoring, the device is configured by moving the upper platform, creating a dedicated compartment in which to house the glue card. In this configuration, the glue remains protected and accessible only to the target insects, without being affected by the possible presence of rodents. The access holes in the cockroach compartment are calibrated to millimeter precision: they allow cockroaches to pass through, but drastically limit access to small, non-target vertebrates, such as geckos, reducing the risk of bycatch to extremely low levels.
