Il Centro is the largest shopping center in Europe. The architectural concept is distinguished by its system of squares, each with its own identity, all serving as gathering places. It is home to over 200 stores, 25 restaurants, a diagnostic center, a sports complex, and several play areas.
The entire structure was designed and built following strict energy-saving and bio-sustainability criteria. Standing out above all is the Glulam roof: a laminated wood made from sustainable materials and applied for the first time in a shopping center. It was inaugurated in April 2016.
Even before construction was completed, pigeons began roosting in sheltered parts of the building. The pigeons perched under the roof, and their droppings stained the glass facades.
The owners of Il Centro decided that prevention was better than cure, and in December 2015, approximately 9,000 Bird Free trays were applied to all the sheltered areas of the structure.
Bird Free provided an effective yet non-intrusive solution to the pigeon problem. The client is pleased that their beautiful new building is now free from pigeons.
Following an inspection on February 18, 2020, it was confirmed that the pigeons had not returned. Birdfree remains effective to this day, in 2023, in keeping pigeons away from Il Centro in Arese, one of the largest shopping centers in Europe.
