Focus

Sanitisation and properties of disinfectants

Disinfectants are included in the category of biocides and comprise a large group of substances used in the sanitization process due to their antimicrobial properties that aim to eliminate and/or inhibit bacteria, viruses and fungi. The effectiveness of the disinfectant depends on the chemical composition, the type of surface or environment to be treated (domestic, hospital, industrial), and the type of microorganism to be combated. Concentrated liquid disinfectants can have high biocidal activity and a broad spectrum of action; fuming compounds are mostly suitable for treating very large volume environments.

Sterilization and decontamination of environments

Sterilization eliminates all microorganisms, while decontamination reduces pathogens to safe levels. To ensure effective sterilization and decontamination in environments that require a high level of biosafety, practitioners rely on strict protocols. These include the use of selected disinfectants with validated sporicidal, bactericidal, and virucidal properties that are effective against difficult-to-eliminate microorganisms.
